International Principal Dancer
Former Principal Dancer of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, chosen by Maurice Béjart, at the age 17 to dance the principal roles in various theatres of the world such as the Paris Opera, Scala de Milan Theatre, La Fenice Theatre, Mariinski Theatre (Kirov Theatre), Bolshoi Theatre, Liceu Theatre, Theatre Real de Madrid, Dionisio’s Theatre, Bunka Kaikan Tokyo Theatre, National Theatre of China, among others in 134 cities of 31 countries, in four continents, during twelve years.
She also danced principal roles with the New York City Ballet, such as Marie (Clara) in The Nutcracker. She was model of Wolford at the Modern Art Museum in Paris, and invited to dance and model designs of Versace at the Gala homage to Gianni Versace at the Scala de Milan Theatre, 2007. With the Bayerisches Staats Ballett, in Germany, she danced the principal role of Biped, from Cunningham, at the première in Europe and principal roles from choreographers like Massine, Ashton, Bart, Kylian, Neumeier, Cranko, among others. She was invited to dance the principal role of Steptext, from Forsythe with the West Australian Ballet. She was invited to dance at the C40 Cumbre Bienal de Alcaldes C40, and she is guest dancer with the company Convexus Ballet Contemporáneo, in México.
She is the only Mexican dancer who finished dance studies at the Paris Opera School. She has an University Degree in Dance by the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance, INBA-SEP; an University degree in Philosophy by the Intercontinental University; Master degree in Creative writing and Literature, University Casa Lamm, with her thesis Scenes of a dancer; Master degree in Dance Research at the CENIDI Danza José Limón, with the research work The innovations in Béjart to support the postmodernism in dance. She is researcher and Member of the National Center of Research, France BNF, 2016-2017.
Luisa Diaz has Mexican and Swiss nationality; speaks spanish, french and english at 100%, and german at 80%. She also has professional studies in music, singing, piano and musical theory in México, France and Switzerland.
Winner of three Gold Medals at the National Dance Competition of México in 1995, 1996 and 1997 with honors; Golden Medal at the National Institute of Dance at the Salle Pleyel, 2000; she received the award Danza e Danza of Italy, 2001; Arlequín Award for the Best of Dance in 2014 for her choreography Metempsicosis, among other national and international awards.
She is an international ballet teacher and choreographer; she has taught professional dancers and also teachers: she taught master lessons at the school of arts Momentum Performing Arts Academy in London, at the Adult Summer Intensive of the school Art Émotion in the United States, at the Indonesia Dance Society in Yakarta, at the Ballet Academy at Casagawa in Indonesia, at the Superior School of Dance, EBAT, at the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance, at La Cantera, in México City, in the Dance School Doris Topete and at the Institute of Dance and Arts Center, in Jalisco, at the State Center of Arts in Mexicali, Baja California, among many others. She has taught master lessons in multiple states of the Mexican Republic and in other countries like United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, United States, Japan and Indonesia.
She was the only choreographer and dancer at the concert and filming of the DVD, at the anniversary of the Mexican singer Mijares at the theater Palacio de Bellas Artes, “Mijares Sinfónico”, in 2016.
From December 2016 to May 2017 she was artistic director of her ballet Beauty and the Beast, with 65 dancers and a live orchestra with the participation of the students of the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance (ENDCC), with shows at the Flores Canelo, National Center of Arts (CNA), México, and also at the festival “Alas y Raíces”, in May 2017.
From March till June 2017 she was the artistic director of her ballet Alter ego created for the graduation of the University Degree in Contemporary Dance at Flores Canelo Theater, CNA.
She was the artistic director for the adaptation of her ballet Beauty and the Beast for the presentation at the theater Palacio de Bellas Artes with 101 dancers and a live orchestra.
She was Ballet master, choreographer and rehearsal teacher with the Ballet de Jalisco, Guadalajara. Her ballet Euridice’s tango was presented at the Degollado Theater of Guadalajara with the Ballet de Jalisco, in April, 2018.
She has registered at the Copyrights Office philosophical essays, poetry, novels, chronic, ballets, printed and visual didactic material in dance, and her book Adieu, Maurice, je t’aime, first edition, second edition and her book Scenes of a dancer.
She obtained the Licenciate Imperial Classical Ballet diploma from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, ISTD, London, 2019.
She has also participated in academic activities such as speaker in conferences, in administrative tasks, public relations, publicity and cultural promotion. She is artistic director, producer and founder of the dance competition Prix de Guadalajara Luisa Díaz 2018, 2019 and of the Prix de Tijuana Luisa Díaz 2020 in México. Currently she is a doctoral student of the Doctorate in Educational Development.
